Should Phones Be Allowed In School? No! And Here’s Why In the US, states are moving toward banning cell phones in schools, and as a School Counselor, I couldn’t agree more with this decision. Innovative tech is a hallmark of a great school. Young, creative minds mixed with the latest developments have always been a […]

Social-Emotional posts aka Dark roast
Dark Roast is robust and full of flavor. Something this bitter and rich will turn your stomach if consumed too early in the morning. Full flavor, no holding back content is best served later in the day when we can digest it better. These posts dive deep into issues that are meaningful and sometimes difficult to stomach. A true coffee lover enjoys a dark roast when they want to experience the richness life has to offer. By diving deep, we find the flavors of life not everyone gets to savor.
Posts in the Dark Roast category will address the parts of life that we don’t often want to look at but know we should. These posts drive you to a place of introspection while sharing my personal experience that lets you know you are not alone. Like any good cup of coffee, something this intense is better shared and exposed to the light.

How to Enjoy the Single Life
I am very private (hence the anonymous blog), so I don’t like to write about my dating life. However, keeping something hidden makes you more likely to misjudge or misunderstand it. There is a reason truth is associated with light and secrets aligned with darkness. Speaking your truth can feel like warm sunlight on your […]
Stop Parenting Scared: How To End Fear Based Parenting
As a mother of three young kids, I would say that everything scares me, yet I’m afraid of nothing at the same time. If I listed the amount of major issues I have handled in the 14 years I have been a mom, I would still be writing. That list of trials, tribulations, minor crises, […]
Is Therapy Worth it? How to know if Therapy is Right for you.
As a counselor with over 20 years of experience helping children and young adults in, I must first state that you do not have to be in crisis to seek professional help. Finding Your Purpose: What To Do When You’ve Lost Your Way
Many people subscribe to the idea that as you transition into adulthood, you should attempt to “find yourself.” This phenomenon was meant to describe how every person has a predetermined purpose here on earth. Do you believe that there is a predestined version of yourself that you need to discover? Or do you feel you […]
The Temporary Setback: How to Embrace Failure
I’m a self-improvement junkie. There, I said it. Taking ownership feels good. I don’t share this fact about me with anyone I know. It’s my dirty little secret. My YouTube watching history contains personal development videos, meditation I never do, diet and exercise advice, and tarot card readings. One thing I am trying to get better […]

As the dust settled from the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, we quickly saw a spike in anxiety and depression among the world’s youth. The Center for Disease Control surveyed over 200,000 students from 20 states in the 2021 Adolescent Behaviors and Experiences Survey (ABES). The participants revealed that anxiety in school and depression are the most […]
Middle School: Important Info Every Parent Needs To Know
The American Middle School is a unique cultural experience for adolescents. If your child’s school district is structured so that they will attend a Middle School (typically a building housing 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students), there are some things you should know. I was a middle school counselor for eight years and am currently the […]

I’m not trying to be click-baiting or fear-mongering, but inevitably, in life, you will face a personal crisis or two. The crisis may pop up not due to any fault of your own. Nevertheless, it is your steaming pile of crap to deal with. At times like these, knowing who to turn to or where […]
